The king is dead, long live... Part 2

One of the main lessons taught by history to mankind is that the birth of something great is sometimes less important than falling.

Chroniclers of highly developed factions and scientists of the Order of the Fallen Star argue until they're hoarse about the reasons why the Engineers, as they were at the dawn of the new world, disappeared — changed, changing both military priorities, goals, and methods of warfare. The truth (or what is closest to it) is known only by the colossal steel faces, throwing indifferent glances at the bustling people in the canyon from the height of half-decayed buildings. The faces know — but who are they going to tell? Besides, the steel giants have their own secrets. The unborn children of war, they were supposed to be the fearsome faces of unthinkable battle fortresses. A whole group of scientists dreamed of reinforced bastions with the faces of the iron gods crawling along the rocks, as if tankers of the past — on the water, and turning enemies away with one deathly roar. It didn't work out. Engineers working on the giants were planning to overthrow Eva. The outcome is obvious.

But what happened to the Engineers? There was a split in their ranks, which unfortunately resulted in a series of attacks by the united alliance of the remaining factions. Some people, those who refused to accept defeat and preserved cruel dignity, went after Eva and took their old name — the Founders. The other Engineers retained their previous name but chose a new leader who determined their further path — the path of redemption. They were led by Ivy XO, the Mentor's own daughter. As for her father, he retired to end his intrigues and free himself from the past.

It is astonishing that the Mentor, who disappeared completely from sight and relinquished his power, still continued to influence the fate of the world. At the time, no one knew that over the years he and Eva had too many unresolved conflicts. The Mentor almost lost touch with reality for a while, seeing nothing but world domination, and Eva could not decide to do anything of the sort without protecting the precious rear — the family. It is even said that the cause of their quarrels was often the much more violent Maja. The girl willingly gave in to militant moods of the Mentor, and Eva couldn't lose the best of the gunsmiths in some ordinary slaughter. Mother protected her hive, inspired her children to think. Over time, they all, even Maja, refused to leave with the second leader, but it is unlikely that the one who was quietly called the “foster daughter of the Mentor”, forgot everything.

Of course, not everyone agrees with this version of history. Some say that the Mentor was seen in a private meeting with Scar AB, some say that the former leader of the Engineers is trying to sway Riley and Dawn's Children to his side, some say that the archives of the Order of the Fallen Star contain his ambitious letters addressed to Ivy and sent after the split.

Truth is something that is not and will never be in history, and not because everyone has their own truth.

It's just that people are too divided, and wars are more interesting to them than the truth.
